Adam Loftus Lynn came to Australia in 1850, from Wexford, via Liverpool on a vessel called the Hudson, Master Captain McNeil. He landed with his wife, 10 children and a maid. One child was born on the voyage and another in Sydney. He attempted, twice unsuccessfully, to mine for gold, then took up being a Solicitor in Ballarat, assumed to be its first. Appeared for the Scobie family in the Eureka case and clashed with D'Ewes, one of the Magistrates. Owned at least three properties in Ballarat and a grand daughter insisted he erected the first house, but the claim depends on the definition of a house. Eventually gave up lawyering for being Sec. of Cemetery Trust. Two buildings still bear his name. A redhead, as were all his 8 daughters and at least one son; of his wife and other two sons, hair colour is unknown. Died 1878 and buried in Old Cemetery with son-in-law.
Stories of all his children interesting.
