Welsh miners moving to Pennsylvania.

Has anyone got any information on the miners from Maesteg and Nantyffyllon who went to America to work in the mines in Pennsylvania in 1923. Would there be any records of the people who went? My grandfather David Davies, who was working in Coegnant colliery in Nantyffyllon was one of the people who went. I believe one of the teenagers who went with his father became quite a famous singer in America. His family never came back, but my grandfather came back in 1939 when the war started.

Google 'National Archives emigration records'.

The record series BT27 apparently allows you to search shipping lists for those who left GB for foreign parts. It covers the date you are interested in.

The John family of Nantyfflon,25 tonna road, went to Pensylvania 1922. All records can be found on the Ellis Island which includes a physical description and the money they arrived with.

Went on to the Ellis Island site and found him. He arrived in New York on 7 March 1923 on the Majestic. Surprisingly he wasn't headed for Pennsylvania but to Chicago,where his brother John lived. I had no idea that my gt Uncle had also gone to America. It is definitely him because he gives my grandmother as his next of kin. Maybe he went to Pennsylvania later as family legend has it that he was in Pennsylvania. Spoke to my cousin tonight and we are quite excited to think that we may have cousins in America that we don't know about.

Thank you for giving me the info regarding Ellis Island as it is another peice in the jig-saw and a new part of the family to research. My Grandfather actually came back to Britain in 1939 and he died in Bournemouth. I was about 3 or 4 at the time and I never met him so it was quite moving to see the ship that he had sailed to America on.
