"Furrows in Time" A History of Balcarres and District was published in 1987.  Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be available online at OurRoots website.  You could either contact the Regina Public Library to see if they have the book in their collection and perhaps do a lookup of its contents for you or modify the subject line of your post to include Saskatchewan look-up as there is someone from Saskatchewan on this forum who might be able to find this book for you.

The letter mentions an internment in Regina.  You can play around with these sites

Based on the excerpt from that letter it sounds like Minnie's husband was named Alex and not Arthur. Is it possible the family stories regarding all of the names of the husbands are wrong.

Hey Jardiner,

I can look up the book at the library tomorrow if you are still wish me too, there is a copy there  and see what there is to see.

There are two burials which may be related, plus one McQuillan.  There may be an obituary for either of them that would point to a relative....

As well it may be fruitful for me to check out the Lipton family history book as well, I found an obituary for an Cecilia Earl from Balcarres as well..

or even the Bengough history book here:

I will do a little digging and let you know what I find out...if you wait until tomorrow lol

Meant to post yesterday as I lightened the copy from the passenger list a hair for those of you with good eyes and better guesses. Thought second letter was "n" but now think it may be an "r"

Hey Gilly,

So I went down to the library, but could not find an obituary for anyone (only had an hour there)...... but I looked through 4-5 town history books and found some pay dirt in 2 of them.  The titles are "Trails and Tales of Settlement and Progress, Lipton and district 1875-1985 (1991) p. 360, and "The Whispering Aspens: A History of the R.M. Tullymet no. 216 Saskatchewan, p. 230,231 (1986).

There was a bio of a Ormand Earl and Minnie (Cis) King.  It confirms that she was born in Belfast in 1889, immigrating to Canada in 1912. It lists all the children and where they were (back in 1991). One note of correction though Kathleen married an McLellan not a McQuillan.

There was nothing in the Balcarres history book, but the local library in Balcarres has an updated version published in 2005 (for Saskatchewan's centential), it may prove fruitful to email them to see if there is any new information....

http://www.parkland.lib.sk.ca/branches/balcarres.htm

If you PM your email addy I can scan the pages for you, which includes a picture of Ormand and Minnie.

Hope this helps,

Jeff
P.S. Tullymet is a community straight north of Balcarres btw

There is an obituary for Cecila Earl - wife of Raymond Earl who is most likely the son of Ormand and Minnie.

1916 census for Saltcoat area of Saskatchewan (includes Balcarres) shows
O*an Earl 29 b. Ont. with wife Millicent 28 b. Ireland and 2 year old Muriel and 6 mos old Raymond.

O*an is how ancestry indexes the first name

Given the information from Jeff, the letter jardiner referred to could not have been written in the 1960s. According to the Saskatchewan burial index Minnie Earl was buried in the Balcarres Cemetery in 1947 while Ormand Earl was buried there in 1959.
