This photograph can be dated to around 1900 or  before. 

Is there some skilled person who can restore life back to my family member?

Is there any chance of a higher resolution scan ? 300 dpi ?

Unfortunately not.   I am not sure how I can scan at greater dpi .. can that be done??

That is the photograph as received and the only copy I have seen or located.  I believe it may have been taken from the Encylopedia of New Zealand originally but I have no way of knowing.

I have searched around extensively to obtain a better copy without result.  It is the best I can do.

I am not sure how but I have a copy of the original photograph (at low resolution) and going to try or find a way of scanning at a higher resolution and seee if that will assist to improve quality.

Have found a way of scanning the photograph.  Has now being done at 400dpi.  Not sure if that assists or not.
