British Home Children
« on: Monday 17 October 11 15:43 BST (UK) »
Hi
I'm trying to find out what happened to Johnny Joshua Boggis sent to Quebec Canada with a party of Barnados
Children aboard the Corinthian in 1913.
He would have been about 11 or 12 yrs old
Johnny's brother remained at an orphange in Bristol and never saw his brother again.

Any info will be much appreciated.
Poppy

Hi,

Looks like he married Florence Laura Reycroft in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario on 24 June 1925.  He was born in London England, is living in Fitzroy Township, is 23 and a farmer.  Parents are George Boggis and Louisa Smith.

The record is here - and it is free.  The marriages are listed alphabetically by grooms' surnames.  Just scroll down and you will find it.

The marriage record says that Florence's parents are Robert Reycroft and Jean Annie Miller.

Ontario Births has a Florence Loretta Raycroft, daughter of Robert Raycroft and Jane A. Miller, born in Lanark on 1 Jan 1906.

She is buried in the Auld Kird Cemetery, Block E.  You can view her tombstone here.  She died May 10, 1989.   It doesn't appear that John is there.  However, there is a Robert R. Boggis, who died in 1960 - and has a military tombstone.  You can have a look at that too and see if he might fit somewhere.

Hi again,

I keep finding her, not him...

According to the obituary index, there is an obituary for her in the Ottawa Citizen.
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0fq4/

You might try contacting the Ottawa Public Library to see if they can look it up for you.  Hopefully, it will have some information about John and any children they may have had.

They have an "Ask a Librarian" feature on their site

Hi again,

Glad I could help..

Laura's brother George's obituary is here.  I know he isn't a direct relative, but there are a lot of names here of people who may be able to help you..

Just do a search on page for Raycroft or Boggis and it you will find it - it is about 1/5 of the way down the webpage:

ADDED- her brother Robert Delmer Raycroft's obit is at the bottom of this webpage.

PS - many records say she lived in Carleton Place - this is near Ottawa, Ontario.

Hi again,

I am trying to modify my previous post to add a more extensive obit for Florence Laura's brother Robert.  For some reason, I can't seem to do this (after many tries ...   >:()
