You win :-)

Out of interest, does the birth cert for George FONG mention a mother's maiden name (or previously married name). Would really like to trace him and find out where I went wrong.

NZETC has a little bit on an industrial school. Don't know if it's the Parnell one as I don't know Auckland

Thanks

Hi K-T

Yes there were separate boys / girls industrial schools (sorry, can't help with specific names for those in the Auckland area.)

Have you had a look at what's available here ?

When searching earlier for records of children of Elizabeth / Ellen, I happened upon the following at FamilySearch.  [ It's submitted info with no source quoted.]
At the time I thought it interesting in that it had a reference to Auckland;  was for a "George FONG" with a mother named Elizabeth, and the date of birth was remarkably close to that of the George born in Dunedin.    ???

George Young FONG
Birth:    5 July 1883 - Auckland, NZ
Father:   Thomas Young FONG
Mother:   Elizabeth

And now the Dunedin George's birth record reveals that his mother's maiden name was "YOUNG".

Hmmm   ....   :-\

Superb as ever Lucy

I'm back in the running :-)

Beg

EDIT:
And her birth year is only a couple off Elizabeth DOUGLAS

EDIT2:
And there's no record of the 1875 Chch marriage at BDM NZ or on the NZSG Marriages CD.
Will need to check the BDM NZ Marriages fiche to be sure (and ultimately the ITM's)
