Alfred Quelch Ironmongers assistant COMPLETED
« on: Friday 14 October 11 12:08 BST (UK) »
Hi I am after any info on the above, born around 1853. Father was James quelch (DOB 30/03/1828) who was a tanner married to Mary Ann born 1830 and died 1858. I think there son Alfred had a middle name "James" and he emigrated to New Zealand sometime in the late 1860's early 70's (could be wrong though).

Thanks

;D Thanks for your hard work Russell. still not 100% sure if this is my relative or not. I am great grandson (a couple times over) of an Alfred James Quelch who was an Ironmonger in NZ. As far as I can determine he was not born in NZ, but by piecing information together he got married in 1876 in Dunedin NZ. He worked for a firm in Dunedin for 10 years to which he left in 1883, therefore he must have come to NZ prior to 1873. His age at death suggests he was born around 1852-53.

I am trying to get the wedding certificate but it appears to be MIA. He does not appear on any passenger list of arrival to NZ about that time. Hopefully I'll get a copy of his probate but I will not be back in NZ till late next year.

Do you know of any UK emigration sites ????

Steve

Sorry for anyone who did not realise ( like me) that we have about 3 threads running on a similar theme, as should have spotted  the COMPLETED, when apparent answers were still needed for new Rootschatters, will learn to ignore next time!

Well well, Have a great Christmas,
