Foulkes Family Lookup, please
« on: Friday 14 October 11 03:29 BST (UK) »
Thomas Foulkes b.c.1799 St. Asaph married Elinor "Ellen" Davis b.c. 1800 Henllan.
Thomas' parents could be Edward Foulkes b.c. 1771 St. Asaph & Catherine Davies b.c. 1775 Henllan, married about 1790.
Any baptisms & marriage information for this family would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks. :)

Are you looking for baptismal records of the children of the later marriage?
I have a copy of the Blackwell Index(non-conformist) baptisms circa 1812-1837 that lists a large number of Foulkes in the St.Asaph,Henllan,Denbigh area but at this point the maiden name may be irrelevant(next generation?)
There are certainly lots of Thomas,Eleanor(Elinor) in the records.
Are there any specific names from this period you might be looking for?

Roger

Hi Roger, Thanks for the offer, baptisms would be great.
Between 1812-1837 I have from the census'-
Ann b.c. 1814, Jane b.c. 1816 & David b.c. 1821 born to Edward & Catherine Foulkes nee Davies, census' say born Henllan for these.
Then to Thomas & Elinor (Eleanor or Ellen)Foulkes nee Davis I am looking for a Catherine Bridget b.c. 1835-1836 unsure if born St. Asaph or Henllan & also an Ellen b.c. 1832 in St.Asaph.
Thank you.  ;D

Sorry to disappoint you but I can't find matching profiles. In fact in the whole of the Index I can't find a Foulkes(nee Davi(e)s).
This suggests your Foulkes may be established church and I don't have the equivalent parish registers.
If you look in the Denbighshire Offers section you might find somebody who has these and you could send a Personal Message(PM) to them.

Roger

Hello, Henllan baptisms for the children of Edward & Catherine Foulkes(Davies) Abode, Llan. Occ, Sawyer.
Jan 16 1814. Anne.
April 21 1816. Jane.
Oct 31 1819. Peter.
March 4 1821. David.

I couldn't see baptisms for Catherine Bridget or Ellen to Thomas & Ellen in St Asaph or Henllan :(

There is a marriage for a Thomas Foulkes & Ellen Jones St Asaph May 7 1829.

Paul.

Thank you Paul for Edward & Catherines's last 4 childrens baptisms, much appreciated. Would your records go back before 1814 as they also had Thomas b.c. 1799, Peter 1807 (must have died), Edward b.c.1810? Thomas is the main one I'm interested in.
I have Catherine's middle name as Bridget from my uncles records yet it may not be so as it's not on any records I have. Catherine's 2nd marriage certificate, in Australia, gives her mothers maiden name as Davis & her father Thomas as a Gent. Also states they were members of the Baptists Society. Would that make a difference when looking for records in Wales?
I have ordered her 1st marriage certificate, in Denbighshire, so shall see if info. on there differs any.
She is becoming elusive as cannot find a death record for her in Australia either.
Kind Regards, Karen  :) ;)

For information and possible elimination the following address:-
www.connfamily.ms11.net/95.html#i2030
references Catherine Bridget Foulkes with Australian connections and despite slightly awry chronology at one point claims

born to Thomas Foulkes and Sarah Denbighshire 1835
other siblings
John born 1831
Anne born 1833
Edward born 1837
Thomas born 1840

There is such a family on the 1841 census in  Henllan
HO 107 1402 4/47
with Thomas given as b.1806(gamekeeper),Sarah b.1801(see later)

Between Family Search.org and the Blackwell Index(which at times has her transcribed as Sinah) the data looks consistent
There is a mariage recorded in FamilySearch.org("Sinah")which looks appropriate
Thomas Foulkes/Sinah Conway 12th Dec 1829 Henllan
The only inconsistency is a possible birth for SarahConway. The nearest which would still have her as 18 at marriage is
Sarah Conway 1811 Denbigh parents George and Ann

In case it is relevant,as there seems plenty of scope for confusion, the family to go with the 1829 marriage(nee Jones) is likely to be:-

Elinor Foulkes born 09/09/1831,baptised Cefn Meiriadog Chapel(betweeen St. Asaph and Henllan?)
Parents Thomas Foulkes(labourer),Elinor(nee Jones)      "Ty Celyn"
There is an 1841 census reference for this family
HO107 1405 2/6 6 (parents and one child as above Ty Celyn St Asaph Wygfair)
There is no Catherine, nor is there in any subsequent censuses for this family but there is a Catherine Foulkes born 1835 with a family of Jones' in Llangerniew--HO 107 1402 10/15 3

In 1851 the same family is at the same address- HO107 2506 344 16
but there is also a Ty Celyn in Henllan occupied by Davies',including an Elinor(!) born 1817 - I will refind the reference if necessary

In 1861 Ellen has married(Thomas) and become a Jones(!),with grandchildren Elizabeth and Thomas.- RG09 4297 60 8

The couple are still there in 1871 but not 1881
