Hillis, riviter at harland & Wolff
« on: Thursday 13 October 11 17:08 BST (UK) »
Dear Rootschat, does anyone have any information on Robert James Hillis, my Grandfather, on my mothers side - (lived in Ardoyne and Westmoreland St. and 25 Parkgate Gardens, Belfast (Connswater). (May also have lived or stayed a short time in Magheralynn and/or Donaghcloney. He was a riviter at Harland and Wolff and he married Elizabeth Crawford and had 2 sons, Herbert (herbie) and Robert james (Bobby), and 5 daughters, Daisy, Violet, Meta, Elizabeth (Lily)(born 10 Jan 1919 at Westmoreland Street or McIvor Place, Belfast) and Ruby.
I attach 2 photos - 1. Robert James (snr)  and 2. Elizabeth Hillis (born Crawford).
Any help or advice would be most welcome and greatfully appreciated.

Kindest regards from the Emerald Isle,
BarneyElf.

:o My goodness - talk about being fast .... Very many thanks for your speedy reply which is of great help. Now I have another couple of stepping stones to help go back in history. Would you believe it - I've been searching on and off now for a few months and got nowhere.
Once again, very many thanks for your help. Hope today finds you and your family well and healthy.

Kindest regards,
BarneyElf.

P.S. One of my aunts said a few days ago, that she had heard that their was a Bourdon/Boredon last name in the family, but of this, I am unsure as to the spelling or signifigance. Many thanks again ...

Hi,
Your aunt may be correct. I can find the marriage of Robert Crawford to Isabella BURDEN in Megain Memorial Presbyterian Church, Knockbreda, Belfast on 10 Feb 1893. The father of Robert Crawford was also Robert.

Barney,
I have done a little more digging but you must remember that the results are highly speculative.
Isabella Burden's father was called Henry Burden. I can find the birth of an Isabella Burden on 5 Mar 1871 to John Henry Burden and Jane Wright. The birth was registered in Hillsborough, Lisburn. On 9 Oct 1866 John Henry Burden married Jane Wright in Rathfriland Second Presbyterian Church, Newry. The fathers' names were Andrew Burden and Robert Wright.

kingskerswell ...
Many thanks again for your efficiency - my relatives are growing by the minute - half these people I never even heard anyone mention. Crikey, what a boost. These extra notes are really little diamonds - and greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking time out to help ....
