Very small scan VERY SORRY but can it be improved please

Hi there,

Firstly I apologise for the size of the file attachment.  I would not want to strain anyone's eyesight.  If the photo can be improved at all, particularly removing the light that got in when the photo was originally taken, I would be very appreciative. 

I can confirm that it was taken in an Autumn in the 1950s in rural NSW Australia, and so if I can stretch the friendship further, can it be coloured please? 

It cannot be re-scanned, as the family member who has the original is travelling around collecting various bits and pieces together for a centenary birthday for a forebear of one of those in this photo.

We were hoping to use this photo in our collection of photos for that celebration, BUT it is not a critical element, so please, please, please  DON'T strain any eyes ...
