Hi Again,

The 1841 census that Trish posted is not the right family as that William married a Elizabeth Dickinson in 1830 at St Mary's.

Wendy

Well that's me done for now off for a rest.

Hello again Anne

The date of the marriage licence was 23.8. 1788 and gives William's occupation as Victualler - ref AN/MB 184/ 143

I found a couple of documents that may interest you.

There is a Will of a Sarah Pacey widow of East Stoke dated 15 May 1810
(burial date 25.9. 1809 aged 63)  I think this is the widow of William who died in 1790.

Another Will of a Thomas Pacey of East Stoke, Publican & Farmer, dated  4 Sept 1824.

These can be downloaded from the National Archives site

Thanks Carol,

I will get a copy of Thomas's.

It appears I am descended from a long line of publicans!!  My grandfather's
two brothers had pubs in NZ.  The elder, William (of course) was a gold miner, went to the Yukon, made his pile, came home, bought a pub and a year later was bankrupt.  Didn't stop him though, he had several more over the years, in different parts of NZ & one in Fiji.

Cheers,  Anne
