William PACEY and Sarah CHESTER
« on: Thursday 13 October 11 05:28 BST (UK) »
Trying to find the above, parents of my great grandfather William Robert Pacey, born East Stoke, abt 1837.  His Australian marriage cert gives those names but there are many Williams and I haven't been able to find Sarah Chester.   If anyone can help I would be very grateful!    William Jnr came to
Aust in 1849 & NZ in 1862 - I would love to know if he was alone or with his
family - (not a convict)

Thanks,
annejp

Hi Anne

There is this marriage

William Pacey of East Stoke aged 21, bac, & Elizabeth Chester of Stapleford aged 21, spin married at Stapleford by licence 6.6. 1836.

Maybe Elizabeth was know by another name.  It's a coincidence he was from East Stoke.

Hi, Sunflower & Nottsgirl,

Thanks for your replies.  The marriage is a possibility, but I don't think the birth is as my gg father also called his first son William.

By any chance was there a second name on that marriage, as the death
certificate of ggf gave his fathers name as Gilbert and I wondered if he may have been Willam Gilbert.   Ggf was called WR to differeniate him from his son
William.  It gets very confusing, doesn't it!!!

Anne

Hi Anne

Yes it does sound confusing.     Did  WR Pacey's parents go to Austrialia as well?  I found a couple of burials that fit William & Elizabeth, but your message reads that they went as well.

There is no other name given on the marriage entry I found, but you could try sending for the marriage licence which may give more information.

Carol,

Don't know where you got the marriage details from but sorry to tell you you have the wrong date the licence was granted on 15 May 1832.  Document Ref for the sending for licence is  AN/MB/228/122.

Anne the marriage was on 16 May 1832 at Stapleford witnesses were Richard Gilbert and Anne Chester.  I have a copy if you pm me your email I will send you a copy.

The only 1841 Census that seems to come close to being the Family;

1841 Census
St Mary, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire
HO107/870/4/St Mary
William PACEY, 32, Lace Maker
Elizabeth, 30
James, 11
Eliza, 7
Robert, 4
WILLIAM, 2
All born in County

We need to be very careful here is there is a William Pacey/Pacy born c 1837, East Stoke, who is still in England and appears on the 1881 Census (also found him 1841 with Parents Richard/Elizabeth).

Its OK we make mastakes from time to time,
