looking for the birth of my great. granfather william o'neil born 1851 maryport . which maryport there are two one in cumberland and scotland he was a merchant seaman.is fathers name was andrew o'neil  don't now where he was born .any info would be appreciated.

Where did you get William's birthyear and birthplace from?

If he is the 1881 entry living in Carmarthenshire - it clearly shows Maryport Cumberland

The Cumberland 1851 census has no entry for an Andrew O'Neil**

Does Williams marriage cert give any occupation for Andrew

Written to Cumbria bdm offices, they replied that there was no match for William O'Neil. The registrar stated that it could have been the last place William remembered when he was a young child. The marriage certificate does not give an occupation for Andrew. Ship's record shows he was born in Cork, but another ships record shows Maryport. Sorry for the delay, clyde.
