Have you looked on freebmd for his birth?  There is no registration for him in Preston between 1901-1903

I have an Annie Whittle bn 1900 Preston in my tree, with a brother George (birth not known), here's the family. They were living in Clayton -le Woods 1901, which is where George's birth was registered I think.

Richard Whittle ( 1868-1933) married Helena Mary Day ( 1865-    ) : marriage 9 Nov. 1889 Preston.

James and Helena not Richard as you do

i am hanging my head in shame as i got excited after talking to my mother and then remembered they lived in preston but he was born in b/burn

I spoke to my mum ,and your grandfather (her gt. uncle ) was the only one of the siblings that she never met.
