Samuel Duffy B1808 Donegall
« on: Sunday 09 October 11 10:21 BST (UK) »
Samuel Duffy B 1808 in Donegall (spelling?) Ireland married Elizabeth Hyndman B1820 of Donegall (spelling?). They are my Grandfathers Grandparents.

Can anyone shed any light on them? Where they came from? I have friends in Donegal and would love to visit where they came from the next time I am over.

I have had a look about and cannot see anything.

MM

Ok folks,
Just a wee general bump here for a step for a hint. Heading back over to Donegal this summer, so stepping up my efforts to trace the home town of Samuel Duffy.

Is there a townland which the Duffy name may be popular?

Is there anything I could check out while I am across?

Thanks.

we're not really supposed to 'bump' posts - unless you have additional clues that could help the query..

I think the reason nobody has replied is that your dates are very early, and without a location it's going to be next to impossible to even start a search... the other difficulty is that 1808, or even 1820, is before the start of many parish records.

The best place to try to establish a location is wherever your Duffy/Hyndman family ended up...

see : Introduction to Irish Records
My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?

Did Samuel and Elizabeth marry in Ireland - where did they end up ?

Sorry, my apologies. I never knew.

They ended up in Scotland, Ayrshire & Paisley. I think they were married in Ireland, but have no record.

Many thanks for the heads up.

I was hoping you would say they married in Scotland - depending on the dates involved, the marriage cert can give useful clues. If they happen to have any children born in Scotland after 1855 it might be worth checking for birth certs, as these include details of parents marriage i.e. date and location
