One more thought everyone. Christening records are available aplenty in Cheshire, where some of my fairly recent ancestors were born. There are none here it seems, but was that because it was an industrial area, like Manchester, where others of my recent ancestors were born, without being christened (and in one frustrating case, even registered)?

The local baptisms have been well recorded in booklet form for sale from;
http://www.clwydfhs.org.uk/

If you were thinking of coverage on the IGI perhaps, the fact it maybe an industrial area is of no real significance, the main reason is the Parish Registers locally were not given up for copying by Familysearch.org.

Is anyone a member of the Genealogist site  please?

Following the excellent help of William Russell Jones and others I logged on to the clwydfhs.org and asked the publishers (listed as genfair) if it would give the mother's names of all children baptised in Wrexham in the relevant period. They told me no, I"d have to order the birth cert.

I explained my problem: at least 10 candidates for John Jones.

But a very kind genfair researcher, Emma, contacted me saying they had an 1851 Denbighshire census showing:

Surname      Forename      Age      Relation
Davies    W                     44             Head
Davies    Ellen             9            Daughter
Davies    R                     7            Son
Davies    J                    5           Son

I can't find this on ancestry. Can anyone find it on the Genealogist site please? I'd love to know where William (I assume) the dad was born, the brothers' names (Robert? John?) and where they were living in 1851. Having resubscribed to ancestry for a month, and bought the wedding cert copy, I've blown my pre-Christmas genealogy budget already!

Thanks so much,

Jo

Hi Joanne,

Don't know if you'll see this after such a long time. I am researching the exact same family, via Mary's sister Emily, and having the same problems as you did.

Would love to know if you ever found any answers?

Regards,
Daphne
