Elie Churchyard, Elie
« on: Thursday 06 October 11 14:00 BST (UK) »
I would like to know if anyone might be able to help me by taking a few photographs of my ancestors grave who is buried in Elie Churchyard, Elie, Fife.  His name is Thomas Buist who died on Augu 1, 1892 and is buried in Section West, Row 4, Section A of the churchyard.  I would be most thrilled if anyone could help out.  Thank you.

Sorry, not in Scotland but was looking to see if his grave had already been photographed. No luck, but think this may be the graveyard?

Came accross this and wondered if it was the same man?

Hi Tracy61 I have 290 Headstone Photographs from Elie Cemetery
but cannot see a stone for Thomas Buist, are you sure he had one?

Who was his wife ? and did they have any children, who did they marry?

Hi Norrie,
Thomas Buist married Lillias McLennan on Dec 4, 1854.  She died on March 2, 1901 and is buried next to Thomas.  They had one child, Johanna Lumsdaine born Sept 22, 1855.  Let me know what you can come up with.  I understand that they have a gravestone.  Thank you.
Mike

Hi Norrie
Yes the information you provided is them.  I am glad to know you will be going out there next week.  I was in Scotland in 2003 at Elie and never found the grave but then again I was limited for time.  I appreciate the efforts.  I would like to ask you something else by the way.  My Buist family owned large estates in Forgan Parish and Abdie Parish.  Some of them are still standing.  I would like to know if you would be interested in doing an old Scotsman a great favor and might be interested in taking a few photographs of Kirktonbarns which is now a B & B in Forgan Parish.  I have tried numerous times to contact the owners to take a few photographs for me but to no avail.  Also some estates in Abdie Parish two or three to be exact.  It would mean a great deal not only to myself but my grandchildren as I spent the last 35 years doing my family history and would like to present my family with the vast information that I found.  I regret not having gone to these places.  I am new at this roots chat but would appreciate your help.  Also in answer to your question about the Thomas Buist family.  Yes, Lillias Johanna Lumsdaine Buist married Robert Rutherford Cook and they had one child in Edinburgh.  Lillias died on June 24, 1947.  Thanks for all your help and if you cannot do this, can you recommend anyone that can?  Cheers,
Mike
