Can anyone help me I am trying to find out information on some old places around the Birtley area
Does anyone know where (Brownsbuilldings)would have been, Mt Pleasant, and Warwick Square, all would have been somewere in the Birtley area.
Also has anyone heard of MutonHouses in the Tanfield Lea Area would like to know where they stood,

It is Mutton House and Mutton Cottages. Go to http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html and put the coordinates 421720, 555090 in to the search boxes. This will centre the map on the location. Click on Enlarge Map for the 1859  1: 2,500 map, then zoom in to see them.

Thanks I have been trying to find Mutton Houses for a long long time now I know exactly where they are and I am going to see if there is anything left of the buildings.

It says on the web page for Mutton House "You can view the location on a modern map, with an option to view historical maps". The location it takes you to  is out by about one mile.

Great photo my GGgrandfather Thomas Hudson lived there around the 1870s before moving to Birtley.
I went to find the spot yesterday I only live about ten mile from it, It's over grown had to clime some fences to get to the spot  there is some stone work there but did not have a lot of time so I will go back at the weekend.

I wonder if you have any information regarding Thomas HUDSON's daughter Alice?
Does the surname COULSON feature in your family?

I'm grasping at straws, but worth asking.

I have an 1891 Census entry as follows:

RG12/4123  Folio 127  Page 32
11 John Street, Birtley

YOUNG Andrew Head M 27 Ironworker Smith Birtley Durham
YOUNG Alice Wife M 21 Birtley Durham
YOUNG Andrew Son 1 Beamish Durham

I have searched Parish Records and Marriage Indexes and failed to find the Marriage of Andrew and Alice.

From Birtley St John Burials:
Alice YOUNG                    John Street, Birtley buried 25 July 1891 aged 20 years.
Thomas Coulson YOUNG John Street, Birtley buried 28 Dec 1890 aged 5 days.

I had hoped Alice's surname was COULSON, but found nothing to support that. It's possible 
that COULSON was her Mother's or one of her Grandmothers surnames.

Is there any connection with this surname in your family please?

I have a map of Birtley clearly showing Warwick Square and Mount Pleasant. I'd be happy to PM you a copy if you'd like one.

Thanks for getting intouch, yes the Coulson name does pop up in my tree, My GGgrandfather Thomas Hudson lived in Birtley as you know I have tryed to find Alice after the 81 census but can't so it is a good possibility she married Andrew Young I will have a look at this.
Getting back to Thomas he was married to Mary Urwin and they had seven children Alice the youngest, William Hudson b1869 married Sarah Ann Kindred, and there second child was called Thomas Coulson Hudson b1893
Sounds to me that there is a connection. I will see if  can find out,

Thanks for the map,
I will have to try and get St John's transcription and see if any of my family are in the grave yard, I have had a look at the church but there are no grave stones left,
