general question
« on: Saturday 01 October 11 18:14 BST (UK) »
Hi I'm new. wonder if anyone can help me with tracing my g/mother.
She disappears off the radar in 1888 after the birth of her 6th child.
I think i may have found her on the 1911 cen. as being in Bethnel Green asylum. Does any one know how or if I can trace her medical records and where she was from 1888 to 1911.

 Thank You.

Hello and welcome.

Maybe you could give us some more details -  things like name, age, place of birth, husband and children and then we could help you to find her in 1891/1901.

Jen :)

Thank You.

Her name was Esther Hutton (nee Hum/Humn/Humm) Colchester 1854-1932. Husband John 1852-1936. Children: Fred, Basil, Stanley (RIP aged 2),  Emily, Olive, Maud, Ernest.  Thought I had traced her to Stone Hosp. Dartford but when enquired at The Nat. Archives it wasnt her.

Is it just Esther you can't find in 1891 and 1901 or are the whole family missing? As she appears to be in Bethlem Green Asylum in 1911, I wonder if she was in a hospital for those censuses and only recorded under her initials?

There is a possible entry for her in 1891, in Essex County Lunatic Asylum.

Listed as EH, female, age 37, married, born Colchester.

Are the children with their grandparents, John and Martha in 1891?

Good find Jen, perhaps she suffered from some sort of illness after the birth of Ernest.

In 1901, there is an E Hutton in Dartford County Asylum. She is described as the wife of a zinc worker. Do you know what John's trade/profession was?

Ah - Is the Dartford Asylum the same place as the Stone Hospital? Sorry, I was being dim there.

There are entries under EH again in 1901 but none which fits as well as the 1891 entry.
