hunslet (lawrence burials where) ?

can anyone look up the burial of florence kathleen lawrence who died in hunslet at 5 royal place in 1920.  I have been told there is no record of her in hunslet cemetary.  Does anyone have access to any burial records for leeds and nottingham and wakefield also can anyone find  the marriage of john william lawrence and florence kathleen jackson.  she died aged 32 in 1920 had my grandmother in wakefield in 1914 so possibly any time between 1910 and 1920 any help would be most appreciated thank you annette

I have looked on the NBI (which isn't complete) and there is no record of Florence Kathleen Lawrence anywhere in the West Riding of Yorkshire or Nottinghamshire.   Sorry!

thanks jill. what areas does the burial index that you looked at include.  Have you any ideas where I could look now as I am new to all this searching.  I was very lucky to find her death certificate in the first place.  Thanks for looking .  It is very disappointing as at present I am not getting any leads and feel like banging my head against a wall.  Thanks anyway annette

Hello Annette,

The NBI is the National Burial Index and it covers 13 million records in England and Wales from 1538-2003 on 4 cd's.  Some areas are better covered than others.

You could search local newspapers for an obituary or death notice.  Leeds library hold copies and you can email them at localstudies@leedslearning.net if you are not able to go there yourself.

It can be quite difficult searching at the beginning of the 20th century because census records are not yet available and most of the births, marriages and deaths have not been transcribed onto FreeBMD yet.  However, 1837 online does have a complete set of these records but it is a pay to view site:  http://www.1837online.com/Trace2web/ and you should definitely be able to find the marriage of your great grandparents there.

There is a john Lawrence buried in Harehills cemetry in Leeds and quite a few others with the name Lawrence, might be worth a phone call to the cemetry to ask. They will usually check while you wait if you have an approximate date for the burial.

If Florence died in 1920 , aged 32 , she must have been born C1888.
Have you any idea where ? I see you mention Leeds , Wakefield and Nottingham in your post, where does the Nottingham bit come in ?

I know that your gran was born in Wakefield , and that Florence died
in Leeds....So wondered if she was born in Nottingham..

I have looked on 1837online for you , for a marriage , in 1912 , 1913 and 1914 , but have not found any thing yet , but I was surmising that she married in Wakefield....

The main thing is , don't get  frustrated . When I first started , all I knew about my gran was her name , and when she died , and that she was born in Liverpool , but I have cracked it !!!
