Allegedly, it was notorious, and not in a nice way.    If you search on 'Smyllum House' you'll get an article in the New Scotsman which tells all about it.

Read here about the French orphan girls evacuated from Boulogne on the 22 May 1940 who spent five years at Smyllum Orphanage: http://www.holywellhousepublishing.co.uk/Boulogne.html

Thank you so much for this.

I shall add the date to this page.

She must have been one of the older children when she left Boulogne aboard HMS VENOMOUS on the 22 May 1940.

I posted the photographs under a similar topic elsewhere on this site.

Confusing ... it wont let me post the same photos again here unless I change the file names.

Hi Venomous

Welcome to RootsChat

Sancti has already posted a link to the other thread on the Orphanage here www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,468949.0.html

I am going to lock this post now for responses as the other post linked, and which you have already contributed to with this info, has become the principal post for responses.

It can get confusing if more that one post is running on the same topic.

Monica  :)
