Pontin
« on: Tuesday 27 September 11 23:46 BST (UK) »
???   After a web search for my husband's fore-father Ambrose Pontin, came up with 3 references including Charles IX's photo of him!   We are Pontin's, my husband being the grandson of George Pontin, born in Aberdare, believed to be the son (or grand son) of Ambrose.   He moved to Patchway in Bristol just before WWII after loosing work after a pit strike in the 1930's and was a communist.   He must have been born around the turn ofthe century, one of 7 brothers who all returned from WWI.   He spent the war as a army groom in Norfolk.   He had two daughters, sadly now both deceased and my much younger father - in -law is 75.

It is thought that the family originated from Normandy coming to the UK after 1815 - does anyone have

Hello Morgan
I have been researching the Pontin Family for many years and believe that we may have a connection. Ambrose William Pontin 1830-1907 was my great x 2 grandfather. The picture which has been posted on the internet is one which I supplied to another researcher. I believe that your George Pontin was his grandson - the son of William Charles Pontin. He served in the Glamorgan Yeomanry during the first world war but as he was a territorial volunteer  he left the army when he had served his time. I believe he then went back to work in the Colliery.
I would really like to get in touch with you and share ther information which I have accumulated.
My email is *
Please get in touch.
Best Wishes
Phil :)

Hello Phil  :)

Welcome to Rootschat!

Once you have made 3 Postings you will be able to send and receive Personal Messages with other Rootschatters.

I'm not related to the Pontin family! Damascusrose posted last year but hasn't been on Rootschat since. If the email address is the same, she should receive a notification of your reply.

Kind Regards
Morgan
