After a web search for my husband's fore-father
Ambrose Pontin, came up with 3 references including Charles IX's photo of him! We are Pontin's, my husband being the grandson of George Pontin, born in Aberdare, believed to be the son (or grand son) of Ambrose. He moved to Patchway in Bristol just before WWII after loosing work after a pit strike in the 1930's and was a communist. He must have been born around the turn ofthe century, one of 7 brothers who all returned from WWI. He spent the war as a army groom in Norfolk. He had two daughters, sadly now both deceased and my much younger father - in -law is 75.
It is thought that the family originated from Normandy coming to the UK after 1815 - does anyone have
