"Hooghly" departure 1829 for Freemantle Australia
« on: Sunday 25 September 11 10:28 BST (UK) »
Hi
I'm hoping someone can tell me if there is any possibility of finding a passenger list for the "Hooghly" which sailed from London and arrived in Freemantle in Feb 1830.
I am particularly interested in the family of Joseph and Jane Broughton who were on board.

Hi
Iwas hoping there was some sort of record of departures from London. The record of arrival doesn't give us the childrens names.

I managed to find something on the ship itself, and in doing so discovered a fantastic resource which was new to me. http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/australia/hooghly1856.htm

I ran through the ships lists for the year you mention, but couldn't find your names here http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/australia/1825-1832.htm

I found one here but it is typed, not an original. If you are still looking for information on Joseph you may find this useful https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/101249372/joseph-broughton#:~:text=Joseph%20was%20the,Burrows%20in%20England.

The passenger list on the PDF found https://www.swanriverpioneers.com/the-ship-hooghly

I have just found your post and now down a complete rabbit hole from my original search on a completely different topic.
"A Bicentennial Dictionary of Western Australia" compiled by Rica Erickson lists the family of Joseph Broughton.  If you go to www.friendsofbattyelibrary.org.au the entry is on p332 of Volume 1 for B surnames.  This is a thoroughly researched tome by an eminent historian.  She gives the children as Henry born 1816, Ann Elizabeth 1817, William 1818, Thomas 1822 Mark 1825 James 1826 and Robert born 1833 in Western Australia.  Joseph born 1796 and Jane 1794.  I downloaded the PDF but not sure how to post the relevant section onto this forum. It is a free download.  BTW the spelling is Fremantle.
