Hi cousin Sean

Your Grandfather was my Uncle Arch who grew wonderful tomatoes :)

I sent your Dad the family tree a couple of years ago.

James Frederick Wilson was born in the workhouse at Morda to Margaret Wilson (b. 1842, Ruabon) , daughter of Jean Burgess and Robert Wilson- they were  originally from Kirkcudbrighshire.

I can let you have all the details - we have very interesting ancestors.

I'll send you my e-mail via private message as we aren't supposed to give them on the public boards or mention who we are  :)

PS - I think I can take over on this one Isobel  - I have all the censuses, certs, OPRs, family letters, wills, newspaper reports, etc., etc. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hi again

As I said in my PM, I'll send you all the Wilson/Burgess/Parry/Jones info by e-mail over the next few days as there is so much. However, I haven't done very much  on your grandmother, Aunty Nellie, but here  she is with her parents in 1901:

12 Park Lane, Abram, Lancs
RG13/3560/129/38

William E Pearce, 24, coal miner hewer, b. North Wales, Chirk
Mary, wife, 24, b. Lancashire, Hindley
Ellen C, dau, 2, b. Lanc, Abram
Florence M, dau, 4 mths, b -do-

As they're my 'married in'  rellies, I did check them on the 1911 and they are in in Chirk.  William born Hengoed

Marriage of William Edward Pearce and Mary Dunn
Dec quarter,1896,  Wigan, vol 8c page 2

I'll check out the Chirk info that I have to find William Pearce.

Did you know that Aunty Nellie delivered me in Chirk Green  :)

Bit of trouble finding William in 1881 but this might (not certain though) be him. I know that there was an Irish connection at some point and the Pearces, as you know,  were RC. He stated that he was born Hengoed in the 1911 and I've rechecked and I believe it was in Whittington parish - Gobowen certainly was. You might have to buy William's marriage cert to be sure of his father. Also a poss birth reg for him in 1876, Oswestry.

1881
Cottages, Chirk Bank,  St Martins, Shropshire
RG11/2660/46/20

Caroline Pierce, wid, 39, charwoman, b. Ireland
Henry, s, 24, coal miner, b. Staffs, Wedgebury(Wednesbury) *
Charles, s, 15, labourer in coal mine, b. -do-
James, s, 11, b. Wrexham
William, s, 5, b. Whittington
Agnes, d, 6, b. Staffs, Wedgebury*

Hi again Sean

I think that this is the same family in 1891 but the places of birth/ages/ names have changed:

31 Colliery Houses, Chirk Green
RG12/2118/176/27

Catherine Pearce, widow, 57
Agnes, dau, 19,
William, son, 17, coal miner
Charles, son, 24, coal miner
All down as b. Wolverhampton

And Mother with elder son Henry in 1901:

71 Chirk Green
RG13/2546/181/26

Henry Pearce, married, 39, collier below, b. West Bormwich
Jennie, dau, 16, b. Gledrid
Annie, dau, 14, b. Chirk
Henry, son, 9, b. -do-
Margaret, daug, 6, b. -do-
Katherine, dau, 4, b. Preesgweene
Katherine, grd mother, wid, 62, b. Wednesbury

And I've gone back to 1871 try to locate the father:

Primrose Street, Willenhall (a lot of Chirk miners went there for a time)
RG10/2945/18/29

Thomas Pearce, 41, coal miner b. Shropshire, Near Oswestry
Caroline, wife, 35, b. Ireland
Thomas, son, 13, coal miner, b. Staffs, Darlaston
Henry, son, 11, coal miner, b. -do-, Wednesbury
Charles. son, 5, b. -do
James, son, 1, b. Wrexham, Wales

I'm having probs pining them down because of the variety of info that they give on each census. Why did Caroline become C/Katherine and why did her place of birth change  ???

I think that this is Agnes's birth cert which would give both parents's names:

Agnes Pearce - Jun quarter, 1875, West Bromwich, vol 6b page 765

You'd need to order it from the GRO:
