Two posts - not a problem.

Interesting coincidence. I haven't done any genealogy in ages so last night I thought Iwould start to get my files updated on-line. I was up till 2.00am (as you do) specifically researching for Thomas Prices's parents.
I got up this morning and did some googling and this site came up with the link.

I had already registered as a member some time ago.
I don't know how I managed to not get the site listed in my Favourites.

I can see that.
With some of my families, I have hit the proverbial brick wall so it would be fantastic to be able to try for a few breakthroughs.

Exactly why I've gone on here myself - I figure if I got "out on a limb", I'll come back to the main branch that I am searching with some leads along the way.

Hi

These details may be of interest. I have a section of the Price tree to many twigs of the present day through Joseph's son Ernest Oliver. Distant relatives of mine but the tree is not part of my research so cannot vouch for it (but all dates and places fit as far as I know).  I am also a descendant of an "Indus" family.

Hi MalNZ. Your post has highlighted the confusion I encountered when I first started my family research.

The clue is; there is a Waimea South and a Waimea West.
The Waimea south family is not related to the Waimea West family as far as I know.
I haven't found any link at all - maybe back in England but not discovered yet.
It was very confusing initially because there were common names in both families.

Thomas, William and Joseph in Waimea West were all blacksmiths.
When William moved to Havelock, (Marlborough District) he became a General Store Keeper and at one time Chairman of the Local Council.

Ernest Oliver PRICE, would probably have been the son of the Waimea South Joseph because the Waimea West Joseph PRICE married Mary Jane MILLARD.

Hi

Had these families as the possible sources for my rellies, with no other information that could tie them with any certainty to either Waimea's or other nearby hamlets of the day. My source for the tree had not bothered to research further back in time.

arrivals

"Indus" Liverpool to Wellington to Nelson arr 5/2/1843
Thomas  37  blacksmith/Shoer
Mary Ann  31
William  infant.

"Olympus"  Gravesend to Nelson 6/6/1842 to 8/10/1842
Thomas  35  gardener
Dinah      33
Caroline   11
John         9
Sarah       7
Joseph    5
Thomas    3
Ann          1

As you say this "Olympus" Joseph is the most likely parent for my relative but who is the "William Henry" of Waimea south in the 1860 Jury list? I have always suspected that there were three or more families.

Another Thomas Price (age unknown) without family arrived later  (1864) in Nelson on the "Violet".
Obviously, newspaper reports have to be very carefully sorted and properly attributed - which Thomas, Joseph/Josh, William etc. are answers to a genealogical multichoice question?  I'll try and  tackle my lot and then at least they can be eliminated from your lot.

Can I intrude in this thread, please  8)

I am looking for more information on George William Price and his wife Jane Becky and their children ???
These five children were all born in Christchurch
John Vincent b. 1875
Henry Edward b. 1877
Alice Burkey b. 1878
Nellie Amelia b. 1880.
Jessie  b. 1881

I have not been able to trace George William as there seem to be so many possibilities  ???

The only child I have information on is John Vincent, who married Leila Emma Langford 1899, and the Langford family have strong links to Waimea, and Golden Bay.

If anybody recognises this family, I'd love to hear from you  ;D
So many possible Prices to check  ::)
