« on: Friday 23 September 11 01:38 BST (UK) »
I have emailed serveral time the Dunedin archives to try to order a probate .. no success .. no answer to my emails ....

Are Dunedin archives closed ????

I know from Paper past that the will was contested by the wife of one of her son (don't know the outcomes of the court case)

I have found 2 references of this will is :

agency series accession box / item sep record no. part alternative no.

DAFG  9066  D328  7 /   556

Second reference : (R22106216)

title years
JONES Mary Ann - Menzies Ferry - Widow 1894 - 1894

agency series accession box / item sep record no. part alternative no.
DAFG  9071  D328  322 /   459

Is there a difference between a probate and a will ????

Hi Gwenno2
to use the Archives you have to go in person so that may be why the do not respond. I live out of Dunedin but am there from time to time and could have a look for you. They will copy the documents and and i could post them to you. Now Archives charge for each copy i think about 50 cents or 25p per page plus the postage. Let me know what you are looking for and we can take it from there.

Cheers Mike

Hi Mike,

What we normally do is take our cameras, and photograh the pages, then we email the photos to the poster.   You just need to register your camera at the desk so you can use it in the reading room.   This saves us  having to pay for photocopies or postage.

Hope this helps :)

Welcome to Rootschat. :)

Cheers

Probate and Wills
Is there a difference between a probate and a will ????

Probate is a a Court document containing the original Will which has been accepted under Courts rules of evidence as The Last Will and Testament of a deceased person.
The original Probate is a Court Record and a Copy is issued to the Executor(s) to obtain official transfer and handover of assets to the Executor to fulfill the wishes (technically Trusts) in the will.   A female Executors is referred to as Executrix (plural Executices)

In a past life it was occasionally my task to read aloud the copy about to be issued by the Court while a Court Clerk read the original to make sure they were the same.   This practice became redundant when photocopying became reliable.
