Burial Rainbow Hill parish Worcester
« on: Wednesday 21 September 11 18:45 BST (UK) »
I think I have now located where my great great grandmother died and found her burial record for the parish of rainbow Hill  - 1887. The church of St barnabus in that area has no graveyard and the nearest is the Astwood cemetry. I am trying to find out if there is a grave for her and wondered if anyone knows where I can get this info. The Worcester history centre don't have this info and suggested archaeology department somewhere?
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks

Hi There

Worcester History Centre have the burials for Astwood cemetery on microfilm so if they cant find any record it points to the burial taking place osmewhere else, personally I would have thought it would have been Astwood thats the nearest place to Rainbow Hill - this may interest you I was born at 9 Astwood Rd Worcester so know where both Rainbow Hill & Astwood cemetery are

Thanks for reply- my ancestors - the Whitings were at 14 Astwood Road- so just over the road from your birth place!
We have a copy of the burial record but it says that the burial is in the parish of rainbow Hill and no mention of where? The ceremony was performed by the curate of St Nicholas but don't know if that means she was buried there?

Hi There

We have a problem then as St Nicholas has not been used as a church for a long time - it has been used for diosecen records storage as well as by the record office at one time & I dont know what it is used for now - sorry to be a wet blanket.  If you put this on the Worcester mailing lists & pray that a chap called Gus Tysoe reads it you may well get some very good info then

Did you ever get to the bottom of this mystery? I have rediscovered a map of part of Astwood showing where graves are - which I got from the cemetery office many years ago. If your ancestor happens to be on this map I could check if she had a stone?

Can I just clarify that Worcester History Centre actually checked the Astwood Records for you?  I can't see any Whitings on my map but it only covers a tiny portion of the cemetery.

Hi Again

Can I clarify something - are you trying to find exactly what part of the cemetery (if the burial took place there) the grave is in, as its a huge place & its a big ask for anyone to walk round it for you.  Have you thought of getting in touch with the cemetery directly as they would be able to tell you if your ancestor is intered there.  I have just come to the end of a 6 week holiday in Worcestershire & have visited the Hive (New record office) 6 times in that period , had I known earlier that you were still in trouble with this I would have had a quick look at all the Worcester parish registers for you - unfortunately I wont be up again until Christmas/New Year so remind me in early  to mid December & I will have a look for you - thats the best I can offer

Hi Phil thanks for the reply. i was trying to find out which actual cemetry she is buried in to go and look around as i am really confused as to where it is? I know some places can tell you which plot someone is buried in and I wouldnt expect anyone to walk round for me. The problem was determining which cemetry to walk round and to contact as the records don't make that clear.

netti- I got the burial record from worceter but as I said earlier it says she is buried at rainbow Hill cemetry so i am sort of ging around in circles.

Thanks again  both of you for your help.  :D
