Thomas Lang

I'm looking for information on Thomas Lang b. 19 Jul 1861 in Sprouston, Roxburghshire, Scotland. He moved to Londonderry and married Mary Ann McElroy from Bushmill, Antrim in 1885. He was a partner in Kerr, Lang and Jackson, seed merchants and implement agents on the Strand in Londonderry and lived with his family in Londonderry as late as 1912 (signed the Ulster Covenant with address 79A Foyle Rd). His wife and four of her children were buried in the City Cemetery in Londonderry but he is not buried there. There has been some suggestion that he may have left Mary Ann for another woman, but this is unconfirmed. I have no idea whether he left Ireland or lived out his remaining days there.

I am Norman Lang, Thomas was my grandfather, we never got to know the circumstances of his leaving.
I am the son of Walter Lang

A tree exists owned by a ‘Duncan” contains Thomas    Lang   b 1861   Roxborough, Roxburgh...   its located on http://www.GenesReunited.co.uk/tree/results/lang/thomas?memberkey=0&yearofbirth=1861&yearofbirthrange=0.  To find out more I think you have to become a member to contact him.

So Thomas was 24 when he married., and was married 25 years by 1911 Any clues about his scottish background.  Could he have gone back there. If he had had a sudden death away from home, and he was identified where would it be registered eg GRONI Belfast or Dublin
Its surprising his oldest son Thomas or daughter Dinah didn’t know what happened to him

His company Kerr Lang and Jackson seed merchants
in 1918 Strand road, name unchanged so they must have stayed in contact? Do any company records survive? see www.lennonwylie.co.uk
In 1918 street directory there is a Thomas Lang living in Gartylough, Cavan see www.lennonwylie.co.uk

If he emigrated, there was a Lang    Thomas    1863    —    1912    New York City Passenger Lists, 1820-1957    — recorded in http://search.findmypast.co.uk/results/world-records-in-travel-and-migration?firstname=thomas&firstname_variants=true&lastname=lang&eventyear=1917&eventyear_offset=5&_page=1    Birth year 2 years out is possible, to make out he is under 50 for some reason

He is not buried in Belfast ‘s http://www.belfastcity.gov.uk/community/burialrecords/burialrecords.aspx

Death would have been registered wherever the death took place. Perhaps you are thinking about overseas deaths? (Find My Past have database but not all foreign deaths were registered)
