Arthur Frederick Danbury in Saskatchewen
« on: Saturday 17 September 11 17:00 BST (UK) »
Well I have learnt a lot from reading other people's posts and for the first time know there  are things called Homestead records!

As I try to follow up links you kind people have posted I wonder whether someone could find a newspaper obituary for me? and any other useful information I have missed or been unable to find.

Arthur Danbury b. 1882 in Bladon, Oxfordshire, emmigrated to Canada in 1904 to take up farming (Canada, Ocean Arrivals (Form 30A), 1919-1924). He returned to England in 1919, got married to Margaret Griffin and returned to Canada in March 1920 aboard the Scandanavian. His wife (widow) and two sons returned to England in December 1926 aboard the Metagama.

I have heard that Arthur was killed on 22 Jul 1926 in Saskatchewen.  He was thrown from a wagon when his horses bolted after being startled by a car horn.

I would love to find any newspaper article about his death and if anyone can point me in the right direction to find his homestead records I'd be thrilled. The UK probate record for Arthur has his address as follows:  DANBURY Arthur Frederick of Buckland Prince Albert Saskatchewan Canada died 22 July 1926.

Any further leads?
Many thanks Sara

If no one here is able to help then perhaps the Prince Albert Public Library may have something like an obituary or article about his death in the local paper. Here's a link to their website:

www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/index-e.html

scroll to Western Land Grants
enter Arthur Frederick Danbury
his land grant information comes up.
Under the search help section, there is information on how to consult or order the file.

Hey Sara,

Saskatchewan has indexed it's own list of homesteads:

http://www.saskhomesteads.com

The land location would suggest it's on the east side of Prince Albert (close to Nipawin although not 100% certain), although Buckland itself is on the outskirts of Prince Albert on the western end.

Along with the library, you may wish to either try the PA historical society:

Thank you all for your links and suggestions.  I have emailed the library and museum to see whether they have archived papers dating 1926 and have noted the Legal Land Description for Arthur and will contact our local LDS centre with the details to see if they have the Homestead files on microfiche.  That was a thrill to see ARD's name and the description of the plot he'd been allocated.

As usual, you have all be so helpful.
Thank you,
Sara

Could you let me know if the results of the Legal Land Description for the homestead will be the microfilm and file that I need to order through the LDS Family search site or does this information relate to the Canadian archives?  If it relates to the Canadian files, can anyone tell me how to locate the correct file on the the LDS catalogue for homesteads as I am bewildered by their website?

I've had a result from the Prince Albert Historical Society who sent me scans of the funeral news cutting and the report of the accident.  So thank you so much for your help there.

Thank you for all your help.  I have got copies of the Homestead report through a Canadian contact and am so pleased.

Roots chat does it again.  Without you I would not have got the information I was looking for.

Hey Sara,

Good to here you got what you were looking for.  I passed by the Buckland turnoff on my way to Prince Albert the last few days, if you could ask the PA Historical Society if Buckland has it's own cemetery or about a burial I may be able to help that way (but probably not until the spring ...snow will be happening shortly here).
