Merging Trees on Ancestry site?
« on: Saturday 17 September 11 16:33 BST (UK) »
Hi i have managed to get two separate trees on Ancestry and its obviously getting confusing!
Does anyone know whether I can merege the two trees so that I will just have all the info on the one tree?  I imagine if I can, i would have duplicates but I guess I can sort them out and delete the duplicates.

PLEASE help  me with this one!  :)

Thanks so much

I can't help with ancestry, because I don't really use it, and only have a basic tree on there.

Have you got your trees on any other programme?  I ask because you really need to keep your main tree and all the notes and any photographs on a programme on your computer.   Then you can just update your tree on the pc and upload it to ancestry, or tribal pages is a good one for online.

There's lots of programmes around.   You can download your tree from ancestry to it.  And depending on which home programme you choose someone will be able to let you know how to combine them.

Also if you ever leave ancestry you won't be able to transer your photos and notes if you have any on there.

Thanks Silvery.

Can you recommend a programme at all please? I only have my trees on Ancestry and one I started on Genes Reunited but I then left that one to start on Ancestry.

So am i better off having my tree on a programme on my computer instead?

Thank you

I use the free one from the family search site

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp

Scroll down and it's on the right hand side.

I upgraded the 'companion' to be able to print bigger trees than three generations.   It took a little time to get used to all it's variations, but there's plenty of help from there, and they will reply if you email them.

Hi Silvery
I have downloaded the free one that you have been using as I got quite confused looking at all the suggestions on the technical board! I have had a look at it and tried to import my tree from ancestry but most of it seemed not to be imported. I will have a play around with it and see how i go.

Thanks!

Hi
could you not just add all the info from both trees onto the one ,(copy and paste names etc)and then delete the other?

Ancestry will not allow combining two trees.
Period.  No fun.
