New York Funeral Home .. Information Please

Is there some one who would have knowledge of the Rollins Funeral Company in New York City please or where their records went to.

This company apparently has gone of business sometime since 1962.

My great aunt died Agnes MacKay died on 28.09.1962.  She was cremated at ther Fresh Pond Crematory, New York City on 01.10.1962 and her ashes returned to the Rollins Funeral Company also of New York and there my trail stops.

The records of the Rollins Funeral Home surely must be available somewhere??

I have some information that a Rollins Family member may be still resident in New York City but cannot post that information here.  Can be forwarded by PM if needed.

Any help assistance or information would be appreciated.

There is a funeral business called Everett Rollins Funeral Home located at 9 Madison St.,Port Washington, NY. The telephone number is (516) 767-1692.  Fresh Pond Crematory is located in the borough of Queens in NYC. Port Washing is in Nassau County, but only a short distance from Queens. I have not been able to locate a web address for the funeral home. There is a cemetery in Port Washington called Nassau Knolls. Perhaps the ashes were interred there.

Funeral companies are required to keep records for 10 years, after that they can be destroyed.

However, if, when they went out of business, the new owner of the business received the records, they may still exist.  If you can locate the actual address of the Rollins Funeral Company, you can check through tax or real estate records hoping the new owner is still in business.

On the plus side, there is a very large parent company, also  called Rollins, providing funeral services from Maryland all the way to Niagara.  Hoping that the two were connected, I have left a message with their answering service hoping to find your answer.

It is the Everett Rollins Funeral Home and their records that I am after.  The ashes for Agnes were returned to them following cremation.  My information has come from the Fresh Pond Crematory.

I suspect if the ashes were not interred in some cemetery then they may have been scattered perhaps on the Falaise Estate , Sands Point.  Less likely is that they were returned to her native Scotland.  It is all conjecture at this point and maybe I will never know. 

Shall see if any records were kept by the Everitt Rollins Funeral Home.
