James Redfern
« on: Thursday 15 September 11 19:01 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to confirm my Great Grandfather James Redfern's history. I believe he may have been born C1875 in Rush, Ireland - if I've got his correct family his father was a gamekeeper, James, his mother Elizabeth. He may have siblings Joseph and Elizabeth also born in Rush. Any way of finding out any more? Many thanks.

I've moved your post from Resources (which is not for queries) to the General board but if you tell us where in Ireland this place is I can move the post to the appropriate board.

Rush is in North Co. Dublin, and there is a possible match for the birth on the BMD Index  (Balrothery covers much of North Co. Dublin, including Rush)

  Name:   James Redfern
  Registration district:   Balrothery
  Event type: Birth
  Year: 1874
  Volume :   7 / Page :   461

see :

  Introduction to Irish Records

Details included on a Birth Cert

James' birth is included in the extracted civil birth collection on FamilySearch, and confirms the parents names you mentioned :

  Name:  James Redfern
  Birth Date:  30 Apr 1874
  Birthplace: Lusk, Dublin
Parents :    James Redfern & Eliza Connor
  Ref. : v 7-1 p 461

Lusk is a sub division (also a town) within the Balrothery district, and includes the town of Rush. The birth cert mentioned above would give a bit more detail, such as father's occupation etc

Constantly amazed at how efficient this system is! Many thanks. It has confirmed birth dates for James and 2 of his siblings I had a possibles, plus another child I haven't picked up as yet - although I knew there are a couple of children living but not identified - so the search has moved forward.
