Y-sgubor-wen - Absercoch
« on: Thursday 15 September 11 12:50 BST (UK) »
Hello

Is anybody familiar with a cottage called in Abersoch called Y-sgubor-wen?  It was the birth place of Bishop John Owen in 1854.

I am trying to trace the family of William Owen Evans and need to find out who was living in the above named cottage in the 1930's-1940's....because whoever lived there was the cousin of my ancestor.  (Obviously I can't do this through census information as it is too recent).  I believe that my ancestors cousin was called Thomas Evans.

Any information on the cottage or who has lived there over the past 100 years or so could prove very useful to my research.  Similarly, if anyone knew of a Thomas Evans from that area and period of time (long shot!!) then any leads will be useful to me.

Many thanks

The only way of tracing the occupants during the 1930's & 1940's will be through the Electoral Registers. They are kept at the Caernarfon Record Office.

Keith.

Hi Keith - we are in Liverpool so don't have easy access to Caernarfon record office without arranging a trip to visit.  I think I need to do just that!!

Hi Jimbach - Wow, what are the chances of anyone replying who knew of Thomas Evans? I'm amazed!  Do you know anything else at all about where Thomas Evans and his sister came from before they lived there.....or anything at all about them.  Are you still in the area?

I wonder if there will be any writing on the grave stone where they are buried. Do you happen to know?  If I can trace the Evans line it will lead me to the father of William Owen Evans (my great grandfather).

Thanks so much for your information so far!!

Can you recall the name of his sister?  It would help me when I try to find Thomas Evans on the 1901 census.

Thanks

How's that for a peach of a reply from Jimbach - not only some information, but he also knew the family. Priceless.
