Mmm ... there doesn't appear to be any connection between FYFE and CUMING and the George Henry FIFE family.  

[FYFE and Cuming were a Dunedin-based firm of drapers and clothiers whose principals were Frederick CUMING and Maxwell I. FYFE.      Maxwell Instone FYFE was born c. 1853 in Scotland, according to his (Dunedin) cemetery record. ]

Papers Past search for Fife returns some Fyfes and many other Fs including Fit Fire Pipe fide as well as references to the Scottish Fife County/Shire and its Dukes, Duchesses, Earls etc and Fife Wheat  even plenty of graphics etc rendered by OCR as FIFE

There are some Fifes who appear in some places as Fyfe notably the burial of "our " Sarah

The most southwesterly of the Titi Islands is found SW of Stewart Island

Apparently has 6 Huts presumably only occupied during the Titi harvest.   Rises to height of 103 m

FIFEs on Ruapuke

Maori Land Court Records have two separate records for beneficial owners with the name FIFE (and several as a Trustee) for land on Ruapuke Stewart Island
