Edward Allen PAGE emigrated to South Australia
« on: Tuesday 13 September 11 17:44 BST (UK) »
Hello,

my 3rd Great Grandfather Edward Allen PAGE emigrated with his second wife Eliza to Australia at some time between 1873 and 1881. I have narrowed it down to these dates with the second marriage date and the fact neither appear on the 1881 census.

Edward was born in 1844 in Brighton, Sussex and married in the same town in 1868. They had one child and his first wife died in 1872 when their child was one year old.

Edward gave up his child to another family, for reasons unknown, and remarried in 1873 to Eliza FAIRMAN in Southwark, now South London.

I have found a death record for and Edward Allen PAGE on Ancestry however as I don't have access to the world archives I don't know what state and town he resided in. I also do not know where he landed on his arrival. I would love to know more about him and what he did in Australia. His occupation listed on the 1871 census was Painter, I would imagine the decorator type.

Many thanks in advance.

Paul

If you know he is your ggg grandfather, then you have identified your gg grandparent, a son/daughter of Edward Allen Page and Eliza Firman.

Where and when was that ancestor born...that would locate this family in Australia.

Or are you descended from the son born from the first marriage?

Sorry, I should have said before.

I am descended from the child of the first marriage, who was left in England.

Do you have parents names for Eliza Fairman and Edward Allen please.

What do you know that has them definitely going to Australia?

Did they have children in Australia?

I only know Edward Allen's parents are John PAGE and Ann BURT.

I have the indication of the death record from searches on ancestry. This with the fact that he simply disappears from the UK records after 1873 adds to my belief that he and his new Wife emigrated to Australia.

I don't know if they had children either in the UK or Australia.

Here's one possibility - a funeral notice in Adelaide in 1915 for an Edward Allen Page

Wow

That is great. If this is one and the same I think I have found article on the same website about him giving evidence about a theft of a couch from a verandah.

With the information about the death in Adelaide I have visited the State Records of South Australia website and I think I have located Edward and Eliza arriving in 1874, which fits in with what I already know.

Know all I need is an opportunity to visit Australia to find out more as their records have not been digitised!
