Coastguard records c1940-1950
« on: Monday 12 September 11 11:13 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know where I can find records for someone who served as a Coastguard at Tynemouth sometime between 1940 and 1950?

I've searched the NA but not found anything and can't find anything of any use for Tynemouth itself.

Ive down loaded the service records for the T's but he's not there!

My Uncle Robert Charles Taylor (born 1898 Newport, Isle of Wight) was stationed at Tynemouth around those dates and died there in 1953. I would like to find his records if that's is possible.
PLEASE SCAN ALL PICS AT 300-600 DPI FOR RESTORATION PURPOSES.  THANK YOU!

Good luck with your search Wendy.
I'm sure someone in the forum will be able to help with Northumberland records or point you in the right
direction.
Recent info sometimes is hard to find.

Wendy - from what you've said I assume you haven't found him in the establishment books on TNA's website, which run up to 1947. Their research guide details the different types of records which seem to be scattered over different departmental series & most would need a visit to TNA:

No I haven't found him in the establishment books on TNA's website.

Unfortunately living on The Isle of Wight makes it very difficult and expensive to visit the TNA.

Wendy - I think that applies to most of us.  :(

TNA are putting more & more online either themselves or via one of the commercial sites - they have a monthly e-mail newsletter that announces this type of thing, so may be worth subscribing to if you don't already, in case more material comes out.

They also do podcasts of their talks on particular research areas - none on coastguards as far as I know, but in case they do one in the future here's the link:
