Tiller family, Southampton to West Coast NZ
« on: Monday 12 September 11 04:24 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the ancestors of Thomas Tiller who left from Southampton about 1857 to possibly Aust. then to NZ. His wife was Agnes (Mary) Irvine or Irwin. Daughter Sarah is my G-grandmother.

Your enquiry is probably better located on the NZ site because information about the origins of Thomas Tiller could be available from his marriage and death certificates in NZ.

Do you have these certificates?

When you give a piece of information it is useful to also indicate the source please...

How do you know that he left from Southampton?.
What do you know that makes 1857 a possible time?.
Why is Australia a possible destination before NZ?.

Do you know where & when he was born?

There are 24 Thomas Tillers in the 1851 census; ages range from 74 to newborn!

Please give us some more details! ;D
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

the info I have on thomas tiller is from various sites, electoral rolls and family. Thomas was a miner and hotel keeper on the West coast and died in a quarry accident in may 1903. he apparently left in 1857 and may- a rumour- have gone to Aust. he may have been born about 1831 but where I'm not sure
