Hi:  Searching for LOWE, John,  born:20 Feb 1824, parents James Lowe and Anne Clarke in Warrington.  D. 7 Nov 1913 in Canada.  John Lowe developed the very large Lowe Farm in Manitoba, Canada which still bears his name.  I would like to discover if there were siblings and the names of the grandparents, if possible.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Susan

Hi Susan

Found a few siblings for you of John.

Mary Lowe born 22nd July 1822 bapt 28th May 1824   parents James and Ann
John Lowe          20th Feb  1824         17th May 1824                     "            "
James Lowe        2nd Mar   1826         18th Apr  1828                    "            "
Ann Clarke Eaton Lowe
                            bonr   1828              18th Ap   1828                    "            "
All christened at Great Budworth, Cheshire, no mention of Warrington

Looks like they christened the children two at a time.
From the names of Ann looks like they could be family names so
will have a look for you and hopefully will find the Grandparents on
both sides.

Hope this helps

Hiya Susan ...
www.lan-opc.org.uk/Search/indexp.html
marriage 10th february 1820 at St Elphins,Warrington ,Lancashire
James Lowe of Grappenhall
Ann Clarke of this parish
witnesses William Whatmough / Mary Pickering
married by Jonathan Topping   Curate
both full age so born before 1799....
I can only find one Anne Clarke babtised in St Elphins between 1785 and 1805

Ann Clarke 13th oct 1793 St Elphins -parents James Clarke and Mary ...occ a weaver ..

so ...James Lowe was from Grappenhall which is a village near Warrington ...
if John was born in Warrington in 1824 I would have thought his babtism would have been in St Elphins - the church his parents married in and obviously Anne Clarkes family church....so I would think the births and babtisms Sandymc are correct- as it doesn`t look to me that John was born in Warrinton.....

Only 2 James Lowe babtised between 1795-1805 in St Elphins

James Low babtised 20th May 1798 ...parents George and Sally
James Low babtised 27th May 1798 ...parents Matthew and Mary

so could the first born Mary Lowe b 22nd july 1822 have been named after her grandmother Mary Clarke or Mary Low ?

all supposition, but I would keep a note of the Matthew and Mary possible for James Lowes parents for future reference

Hi again,
Still looking for family but just had a look at the Churches.
The one for Grappenhall is called St Wilfreds.  It is in the
Parish of Grappenhall but also in the Deanery of Great Budworth.
So thats a good connection for the information already found.

Found another sibling.
Thomas Lowe chris Great Budworth in 1830 parents James and Ann.

Because of this I did look for a Grandparent called Thomas and found

Thomas Low birth abt 1774 c 23rd Jan 1774
parent Thomas Low at Grappenhall, Cheshire.
This could be James Father and Grandad???
Thomas has a sister called Margaret born 1775 c 19th March at Grappenhall

Hi All Respondents:  Thank you all so much for the information you have discovered and kindly posted for me.  I am so grateful and amazed at what you have found.  The reason I am searching down this path is that during my search for my husband's family, I found their Western Land Grant for farmland in Manitoba, Canada.  I took the legal description and converted it to survey maps and discovered that it was in the very fertile Red River Valley in a region known as "Lowe Farm".  My husband's grandmother's maiden name was "Lowe".  The thought was that perhaps John Lowe who developed this massive farm could possibly be related to Jessie Thomasine Lowe and when she decided to immigrate to Canada, she, naturally, gravitated to a relative who, in turn, granted her this prime section of farm land.  John Lowe was employed as a Government Agent at one time in his life, I haven't checked on the dates which could correspond to the Land Grant and his position at the time.  The co-incidence of her name and his being the same has been too great to pass up but I haven't made the family connection yet.  Thanks to everyone so far.  Susan

Hi Susan

There could be a connection but need a little more information.
Do you know when the John Lowe went to Canada, what year.
Also, Jessie, is she now passed away otherwise we cant really search
for details on her.  If she is passed then do you know what her year of
birth was and even where she was born and what her parents were called?
Little snippets like that then someone might be able to find the connection.
