Here's a possible birth for John :

John Long :
Christening: 16th December 1810
Birth: 14th November 1810
Parents : Robert and Mary Long
Leake, North Riding of Yorkshire

There are a couple living in 1851 by the names of Robert and Mary Long. Robert has listed his birthplace as Borrowby, which is in the parish of Leake

If you would like these details, give me a shout.

Only one further child by the time they compiled the 1851 census :

Birth, Mar qtr 1847
James Long
Thirsk, Vol 24, page 526

Added :

Was this originally posted by accident in the Completed Lookup section, or has it been moved ?

Pels.

I didn't post it in completed, don't know how or who moved it, can it be put back in beginners or in Yorkshire North Riding?

It already is in the Yorkshire North Riding part Bob, just in the wrong bit. I don't suppose it really matters, must have been a mistake when it was moved !  :-\

I'll have a look at the 1851 with Robert and Mary now. Back in a while.

I'll start with the 1841 first :

1841 census:
HO107/1238/6, Folio 27, Page 4

Yorkshire, Thirsk
Long Street

Robert Long, 55, Ag Lab
Mary, 55
William, 20, Brick m' Ap
Harry, 15, Brick layer Ap
David, 14
Hannah, 11
Thomas, 5

All born in county.

Just noticed  Mary was born in Borrowby not Robert, but that might make more sense.

1851 census:
HO107/2371, Folio 307, Page 15

Yorkshire Thirsk,
Long Street

Robert Long, h. mar, 66, Ag Lab, b. Yorks, Thirsk
Mary, wife, 64,  Yorks, Borrowby
Hannah, dau, unm, 20, Servant, b. Thirsk
Thomas, grandson, 14, Ag Lab, b. Thirsk

One thing that's bothering me, the fact there might have been two grandchildren by the name of Thomas ?
* This might have to be treated with caution.

Added: Sorted, per the post below.

This looks promising :

Thomas Long
Christening: 6th January 1836
Mother's Name: Ann Long
Thirsk

Ann Long was the child of Robert and Mary Long, sister to John.
Hence the two grandchildren by the name of Thomas in 1851.

Ann Long
Christening:    25 Feb 1812
Birth Date:    25 Feb 1812
Father's Name:    Robert Long
Mother's Name:    Mary
Leake, North Riding of Yorkshire
