There are these baptisms at Combe St Nicholas:

02 Dec 1792  Mathew, natural son of Sarah PAVEY
10 Jan 1796  Mary, base born dau of    ditto [bur 26 Jan 1800]
29 Jun 1804  Sophia, base born dau of ditto

13 Nov 1796  Mary, dau of Matthew PAVEY & Jane

19 Oct 1834  Simon, son of Mathew PAVEY & Harriett of Sticklepath, Labourer
14 Aug 1836 Selina, dau     ditto
10 Mar 1839  William, son    ditto
09 Apr 1843  Elizabeth, dau  ditto of Whiteway, Labourer
06 Apr 1845  Mary, dau     ditto

Burials are recorded for Harriet 42 and Mary 6 on 06 Apr 1845 and 16 Apr 1845 respectively, both of Whiteway, CSN.

21 Apr 1831, at CSN, Marriage by banns:
Mathew PAVEY, bach otp (x)
Harriet READER, spin otp (sgd Harriott)
Witnesses:  Susan FOWLER;  James SINGLETON.  Both signed.

Levi PAVEY, Labourer of Underway, & Dinah ROWE surface 10 Nov 1850 for marriage at CSN and for the private baptism of son John on 17 Feb 1851, believed to be the infant buried 27 Jul 1851.

There are many more PAVEYs in CSN and, like my Ag lab ancestors, they appear to move around all the parishes in close proximity - crossing and re-crossing the Devon, Somerset & Dorset County boundaries.

Of particular interest:

1)  30 Jun 1803  Matthew PAVEY aged 9 apprenticed to Francis BUCKLAND the younger for Mr BAKER's estate CSN.

2)  Jane PAVEY, born Whitestaunton and daughter of Matthew, who married William CUFF.  Follow her history on the CSN website:  http://www.combestnicholas.org.uk/

Thank you dee-jay for your contribution

I had noticed the CSN bunch of Paveys earlier but couldn't pin down a Sarah born about 1804 but heeding your advice about crossing not only Parish but County boundaries I will cast the net further afield. Incidentally I couldn't seem to find anything about the history of Jane Pavey/William Cuff on the site you highlighted.

Thanks vey much

Go to the address I posted;  click on 'History' in the left hand margin; run your cursor down to the Nineteenth Century section and you will find the hyper-link at the bottom of the paragraph that starts ' Also in 1844 .....'

According to Brad Hepburn's research you probably don't need to look much further than Whitestaunton for most of Matthew's issue ... ;D

Hi dee-jay

Thanks for the instructions. What a fascinating story concerning Jane. I still haven't come up with a hit for Sarah the daughter of Matthew but the facts are out there somewhere and hopefully I will find them if I keep looking.

Cheers
