Coral Street, South Bank

Would anyone be able to help me locate this on a modern map? It seems I cannot locate it without having to pay for a map but seems a waste of time for just one street, and I don't have time to go to the library these days. So anyway, if anyone knows where it was, please let me know!

Did you get this address from a census?  If so, can you give us the reference (or the people and the year).

The only South Bank I can find on google maps is Middlesbrough - is this the right one?

There are only two Coral Street's listed in the current Middlesbrough A-Z.

One is near the junction of Union Street and Borough Road and the other is in Saltburn-by- the- Sea, neither of which is in the South Bank area.

As danuslave says if this address was taken from a census then we need to know the year to locate a map of that era to pinpoint the location.

The 1881 census can be searched by address. A sample reference obtained for Coral Street is RG11/4859/78/1.

On the 1901 census a sample reference for Coral Street is RG13/4586/38/7.

Some other streets on the enumerator's route in 1901 were Connaught St, Pearl St, Cross St, Short St, Diamond St, Lime St, Lower Graham St and Middlesbrough Road.

Use coordinates 453500 & 520500 on http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html and then scroll down to the 1919-1920 Pre WW1 Yorkshire map (from the Available Maps list on the right hand side). Click on “Enlarge Map” and then you should be able to find Coral Street and the others by using the Enhanced Zoom on the main map section.

Coral Street lay between the following (which are still there) - Nelson Street and Middlesbrough Road just above Leven Street and Costa Street. It was (roughly) where the A66 now runs.

Can anyone help me find Monsell Street in Middlesbrough? On a 1901 Census

A sample reference for Monsell Street in 1901, is RG13/4577/196/36.

It was in Enumeration District 32, which was in the Cannon Ward, bounded to the North by the Railway, to the East by Denmark Street, to the South by Marsh Road & Argyle Street and to the West by Britannia Street and Farrar Street.
