« on: Thursday 08 September 11 04:19 BST (UK) »
On Railway Employment Records.

For my GGrandfather.  Alexander McKenzie, born 8 May 1896

Employed post WWI for Glascow Southwestern Railway, which became London, Midland and Scottish until the strike.

Any help appreciated

Scott :-)

I believe that the records for Scottish Railways and cross border sections of the LMS and LNER are in fact in the Scottish archives. Did you mean he was employed on the railway until the General Strike in 1926? The LMS lasted until it became British Railways Midland Region in 1948. If he was dismissed from the railway for Trade Union Activity during the strike, then it is worth contacting the appropriate Trade union, ASLEF for footplate staff, TSSA for clerical and supervisory staff, and the RMT (formerly NUR) for the rest. Of course he may have offended the authorities during the strike and got himself locked up and dismissed as a result. This will have attracted press attention, so look for news reports immediately after May 1926.

Hi, I was hoping that maybe there would be somehting on the newly released rail records on ancestry...

As for the strike, I believfe that he took the strike as an opportunity to emmigrate to Canada.  Meaning, no work here, might as well go to Canada.  The rest of the family came a year later.

Could be; could also be that he had been blacklisted by the railway companies (many were) in which case the Trade Unions I mentioned previously are the people to approach.
