Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!
Trying to place John PATON in 1841.
He was born in 1777, died in 1851, and may be found with his wife Jeanne (if she was still alive) or his son James (b 2 Feb 1804). In 1841, James should have been married to Ellen (Helen) Jean DOW. Their daughter, Mary would have been 2.
They SHOULD have been at the family farm, Belstane (Belston, Bellstoune, Bellstown) just outside of Auchtergaven, but another James b 1784 is there with Helen 29, Mary 23 and Jean 1. ...unless it is a transcription error...
Other sibs to James are Andrew (1800), John (1809), and we have an interesting transcription of a Janet William Paton (1796). My early suspicion is that Janet and William were twins.
I believe I have Andrew and John in Balquharn (Baluhern on ancestry), but if anyone would like to correct me - feel free! So John and James could be in Balquharn, Methven, Auchtergaven or .... (I shudder to think)
It's near impossible to track this from Canada. Ancestry isn't much help with Scotland, and this family had loads of kids and followed the naming traditions, so the names are all the same! I am loathe to use the pay sites until I have enough info to actually have a chance of finding things.
Thanks again,
Holly
