George SEWARD
« on: Wednesday 07 September 11 17:12 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know of a George Seward, born 1802 Kilmington, Devon? After his birth, I can find no trace of him.
Parents were George and Agnes Seward.
Thank you.

Have you checked burial registers?

Yes, I have the Devon Family History Soc.'s Burial records 1813-1837, and after 1837, there is nothing on the Freebmd site from 1837-1841 then I searched the 1841-1861 census. His daughter[?] Jane married in 1864, when George Seward is marked 'dead'.
I'm assuming this George is the father of Jane as she is connected to this family by a witness on the marriage certificate, Agnes Seward, sister of George.
After his birth, he seems to have disappeared.

The IGI has an extracted record of a George Seaward ch. 6.4.1817 Kilmington, Devon, father Edward mother Mary

Could this one be yours, seems as long time after being born to be christened but it did happen.

I found several children born to this couple but did not include an Agnes :(  so there could be 2 different  couples with  the same christian and surnames.  :-\

I can also see them in 1841

The father of the George I am interested in was also George, wife Agnes. He married a Frances Welch after the death of Agnes and had several other children, one called Agnes.
Both George [snr] and his wife died the same year, 1826. As most of the children of both marriages were quite young, I assume they were split up. I have managed to trace several of them but not George [son].
The Edward you refer to is George's [snr] brother. His son, according to 1841-1861 census would have been too young to have a daughter Jane, born about 1835.
Thank you for looking for me.

There is a baptism in Kilmington in 1803 giving a birthdate of 1802, son of George & Agnes SEWARD.

Have you tried searching for him under another name, ???  he may have been taken in by relatives  and assumed their name.  :-\

You could try either of his wives maiden names, its worth a go I think.
