Hi, Im trying to track a Bryant Family in the Bermondsey area.The person Im looking for is John Bryant born 1833.His Parents were William and Ann ( Formerly Colville).He emmigrated to NZ about 1864, would love to know anything about this family,  Thanks  Matt

In your post on the Somerset board - you say he was in Somerset.  Where does the information re: Bermondsey and Somerset  come from?

Hi, his Death cert in New Zealand states he was from Somerset.But knowing the families in the area in NZ I suspect he may have been from Bermondsey and part of my ancestry.

John Bryant bapt 25 Dec 1831  in the parish of St George the Martyr, parents William and Ann Bryant

There is a burial  I can see for William Cole Bryant

8 July 1849 at Bermondsey St James age 62 which would put his birth year about 1787 ? Does this sound right for your William ??

There is also a Christening for a Wm Bryant Cole  Bryant
baptised 12 Aug 1787 in St Olave, Bermondsey
parents = Thomas and Elizabeth

There is another too

William Bryant baptism 8 October 1786 in St Leonard, Shoreditch with parents William and Ann Bryant

Thats the family that I think he belongs to,John that is.That Bryant family is where my ancestry Lies. 2 other members of that family also emmigrated to the same area in New Zealand, William 1837 and Thomas 1844.The only hitch is that Somerset was listed on his death cert. I am aware that mistakes can be made over continents and time though, thanks  Matt

William Cole Bryant is the head for that family. I have never been able to find a marriage for him and Ann. It would be lovely to do so as It would prove everything

There is a unassisted passengers list that has John Bryant on it

John Bryant 26 born Great Britain
Departing from London to sydney, New South Wales - 21 September 1859 on the Damascus.

He is listed under the crew thought, not as a passenger.....

There is a marriage by banns I can see but Corville is spelt Corbel and it is in Middlesex, will post to see what you think and have a little scout around again..
This william was married before as he is a widow...


William Bryant, Widower of this parish and Ann Corbel, spinster of this parish married by banns on the 2nd October 1833 by Robt Dent??, vicar
