Jewish family in Poland/Russia?
« on: Tuesday 06 September 11 23:32 BST (UK) »
I've been tracing my family tree and found a Jewish branch of it. My great great grandmother's brother married a Harriet Salkind who I've managed to trace back. Her paternal grandparents were Simon Salkind and Hannah Harris (1815 - 1869). Hannah who I believe came to England from Poland or Russia, lived in Norfolk, England once she moved here. I'm interested in finding out whether anyone else is related to her or can give me some information about her family in Europe? Or if not, a link to somewhere I can search for the info myself?

Thanks :)

Thank you for that! I'm just wondering how I will be able to trace back the family in Poland - are there any records online I may be able to search through?

Hi there

I are not sure directly but if you google - Poland records online it does come up with a few that you can try.. One though you have to apply for things in polish, which could be tricky if you aren't polish  :)

There are a few others though that would be worth a look. Hope it helps and sorry I can't help more. If there is anything else I can help with just let me know

Hopefully your knight in shining armour will be along shortly.... ;D

My maternal grandmother's maiden name is Salkind.  Her father was David Salkind and her mother was Hannah.  It's embarrassing, but I'm still trying to find out Hannah's maiden name as well as the names of the parents of David and Hannah.  They are Jewish and I believe the family came over to the United States from Russia or Lithuania in the late 1800's or the turn of the century, although I am working on this as well.  I wonder if there is any connection between the Salkind's living in England.  I am hoping to get a better idea of the family tree in the next few weeks and I will post anything I find.
