Burial Northampton
« on: Tuesday 06 September 11 16:52 BST (UK) »
Good afternoon

I am trying to find out where Eleanor Maria Fisher is buried, she passed away in 1974 in Northampton.

And if at all possible to find out whether or not she was a widow at time of death.

Thank You

Hi

Do you have any other info, e.g. is Fisher her maiden or married name?

If Fisher is her married name, do you know her maiden name?

I noticed you asked if she was a widow, does that mean you know she was married?

Regards
Geoff

Hi Geoff

She was married to a Edward John Fisher and her maiden name was Clarke,

I queried if she was a widow at time of death because I can find no trace of
her husband after 1920 when their second child was born.

Many thanks

Barbara

Hi Barbara

Yes, I was pleased it was Clarke, that name kept coming up in earlier searches, though nothing concrete until I found them in the 1891 and 1901 censuses. Though in the 1901 census her father, Alfred was not recorded.

Edward & Eleanor's marriage in June q 1916, Northampton, vol 3b page 161 looks good, she must have been about 29 when she married, assuming I found the correct Clarke's.

Like you I couldn't find anything concrete after 1920, though there are a few deaths recorded for 'Edward Fisher' from 1921. I did wonder if he was in the forces during WW1, though they had a child about 1920, that may discount that reason.

Because of Eleanor's good age, about 87 when she died, there is a chance she was a widow when she died, i.e. if her Edward was alive he has kept well hidden!!

Hi Sandy, As I originated this post I will answer your question.

When her daughter was born in 1920 she was living at 58 Essex Street Northampton. I visited her in1970 and she was living in an old peoples
home in Northampton, but I cannot remember the name or address.

Barbara

Hi Barbara.

Welcome to Rootschat.  :)

I did not pick up on this before as it seemed as though
we did not have enough information to go on.

I do not know if you live near Northampton but as Edward was
in Essex Street in 1920 then he could have been buried in
St Pauls Church, St Katherines Church or elsewhere thereabouts.

He was not buried in Billing Road Cemetery if he died in the 1920's.

Maybe it would be an idea to contact the Crem Office at Milton
to see if it was a cremation rather than burial for Eleanor unless
of course you have already done that or know otherwise.

Electoral Rolls won't help us with an address as they are not indexed
by name.

Hi again Barbara.

Whilst in the Library today I tried to find some links to Eleanor.

I see that the child in question was a M J Fisher born in 1920

She seemed to marry L H Stevens which lead me to the Kelly
Directories 1952

Both L H Stevens and E Fisher where both noted as living at
33 Denmark Road which is off the Billing Road.

The families were still there in 1960.

Now looking further on in the Kelly's the family seem to be under
different areas having left Denmark Road and I could not say for
certain which were the right people.

Does Homestead Way ring a bell at all.

This was/is a nursing home off the Kingsley Road.

Sandy

Hi Sandy

Thank you for all the info.

My real quest is to find what happened to her husband Edward John Fisher
who is my late husbands grandfather.

I did locate one of his grandaughters, and she said that her late mother
(his daughter Margaret) had been told that after she(Margaret) was born in 1920 he vanished believed to have joined the Foreign Legion. I don't know about you but this doesn't sound quite believable to me.

I have been tracing my own family history since 1999 and in some cases have got back to 1700's and it is so frustrating that with Edward John I can't find anything after 1920. I tried initially going back, but when he married in 1916 he was a soldier and its difficult to prove where he came from.

Thank you again

Barbara
