Elizabeth FARRINGTON and then HUCKLE of Bourn
« on: Monday 05 September 11 17:46 BST (UK) »
My great-great-great grandparents were William and Elizabeth HUCKLE. She was born at Bourn in about 1788 if the age and place of birth given on successive censuses are correct.

There is a marriage at Bourn which I think must be theirs on 26th January 1818, between William HUCKELL and Elizabeth FARRINGTON.

My question is simply this: Elizabeth was thirty years old, so was she a widow? I realise that 1818 is too early for this to be a compulsory piece of information in the marriage register, but it may be that there is a birth for her in the Bourn PRs, which may give her birth surname if it was not Farrington, and it is also likely that any earlier marriage (say 1806-1818) would also have taken place in Bourn.

Thank you!

Simon

Bourn transcript does not state that she was a widow, which as you say, doesn't mean that she wasn't.

Bourn baptisms and marriages have been extracted onto the IGI, on which you'll find a marriage at 13 Aug 1809 between Robert Farrington and Elizabeth Rippen (bachelor & spinster Wits: William Clements and William Bishop per transcript). You'll also find a baptism of Elizabeth Rippin dau of Thomas and Jane on 21 Feb 1790 (no other detail in transcript).

But I can't see a burial of Robert Farrington, nor a baptism of an Elizabeth Farrington c1788 (other than one in 1770 which seems too early)

Hello David

that's really kind of you, and tells me pretty much everything I need to know.

As you suggest, a burial of a Robert Farrington would do more to seal the deal, but it does look as if Elizabeth was previously married.

Once again, many thanks.

Hello Simon, I have two Farringtons in my tree, both John, father and son.John jnr. married Sarah Ann Brignell sister of my 2XGGF Charles William Brignell at St. Pauls church Cambridge 4th Sept 1870. Cornwell comes into this line too, and I have very many Cornwells in this, my mother's tree, mainly in and around Cambridge.

Thanks for that - nothing immediately connects - as you know, Cornwell is most common in this part of the world, and mine were from Histon, cheerful illiterates calling themselves variously Cornwell, Cornell, Cornall and Cornhile until well into the 20th Century!

Obviously the same family then :) All they ever produce is the occassional war hero! And cross marry into the Ayres family.

Hi Redroger.

My Farrington's were in Hertfordshire in the mid 1800's, Ware, Buntingford, Royston, areas, I was told that they probably came from Cambridgeshire. Did any of your Farrington's move to Hertfordshire, around this time?
Many thanks.
Tony Farrington.
