Hagarty/Jefferys
« on: Sunday 04 September 11 22:29 BST (UK) »
Hi from New Zealand
Can anyone please help me with the following info:
John Hagarty wife unknown, daughter (Harriet) Margaret Haggarty born 1 Aug 1843 Lancaster
she was in New Zealand by 1865 and married a
James Jeffery born 4 May 1843 Hastings Sussex his mother was Harriet Jeffery born about 1824 his father unknown, Harriets father was a George Jeffery born about 1804 Hastings Sussex but her mother unknown.
Can anyone tell me if James or (Harriet) Margaret had siblings and any other info on their parents, grandparents etc. How and with whom they travelled to NZ with.
Hagarty seems to be spelt Haggarty and Jeffery also Jefferys I have found in the same families.
Am I doing the post in the right place 'begginner' or should it be in the area/county they were born?
Thank you in advance.

Hi and welcome to Roots

Can you tell me if Margaret and James got married in England or New Zealand and have you found them on any of the census in England ?

Good morning Kim

The closest I have got to Margaret on the census is

1851 census living in Manchester

John Haggerty b 1819 Ireland Tailor
Catherine b 1821 Manchester Lancashire
Margaret b 1843 Manchester Lancashire
John b 1850 Manchester Lancashire

I would split future requests and post them on the Forums for that area so they get the most coverage

Margaret 1861 census living as a boarder with the following family
Margaret Burk b 1815 Ireland
Mary Burk b 1837 Manchester
Alice Burk b 1842 Manchester
Margaret Hagarty b 1843 Manchester Cotton Mill Weaver

1861 census for the rest of the family
John Hagerty b 1818 Ireland Tailor
Catherine b 1819 Ireland not Manchester as the 1851 census
John b 1850 Manchester
