James Clark
« on: Sunday 04 September 11 18:15 BST (UK) »
Hi Guys

I really need help with this one as I have been looking for days and have reached a big zilch  ::)

In Fordingbridge, James and Sarah had a large family:-

Mary Anne - 1800
Elizabeth - 1803
Sarah - 1805
George - 1811
Benjamin - 1816
Jane - 1817

I can trace all the children, but I can't find a single record for James or Sarah anywhere!

Please can someone help as it's driving me crazy  ???

Many Thanks

You don't say what you are looking for - marriage, burial ??  So I may give you something you already know!

There is a marriage for a James Clarke and Sarah Harrison in Hale on 19 June 1797.

Another for a James Clark and Sarah Tilly in Christchurch  27 Dec 1796.

There is a baptism of a James Clark in Hale (7 Jan 1798), parents James & Sarah of Fordingbridge - another son?  Possibly the first child back home at Mum's ?

Are James & Sarah still alive in 1841?

Nell

Hi Nell

I don't have anything on James and Sarah, so this info is brilliant!

I think it is the Hale James and Sarah, as this is on the edge of Fordingbridge, and the family didn't move far.

I don't know if they where alive for the 1841 census as I couldn't find a single trace of them, which was why I was so frustrated!  ::) which site did you find the records on, as I have spent 3 days looking  ???

If you can find deaths Nell, or them in the 1841 census, or their births I would really appreciate it  ;D

Thanks Nell, you are brilliant, as always  ;D

I have found one burial for one of their daughters:

Sarah Clark 14 Jan 1820 aged 15 (Fordingbridge)

There is nothing obvious in Fordingbridge before 1837 for James and Sarah the parents.

A Sarah Harrison was baptised 13 Mar 1774 in Hale, illegitimate daughter of Anne.  Possible?

Haven't been able to go much further with James.  :(

Hi Nell

Thank you for the info.

I found that baptism as well, it has to be her!  ;D I hate it when I am this far back and children are illegitamate, usually means the end of the line!  :(

I will keep looking and let you  know if I need help with anything  else.

Many thanks again Nell

Hi Lorraine
I am researching the CLARK FAMILY of Godshill wood . I have an ancestor william clark born 1808 and I think his parents are James and Sarah Clark / Clarke . I can not find a birth for William but have other data that connects him to the family.
regards
deb

Hi Lorraine
I have William born about  1808 at Godshill. He marries December 6 1830 -William CLARKE & Mary Anne PHILPOTT both of the New Forest by Banns in the presence of William CURL & Elizabeth CURL . Elizabeth Curl was formerly Elizabeth Clark.
I have William on the 1841,51,61 and 71 census at Godshill, Fordingbridge.
I have James burial as fordingbridge burials
No 283 14th January 1820 Sarah CLARK Godshill Wood aged 15
No 1287 11th August 1839 James CLARKE Godshill Wood aged 65
and also James and I expect Benjamin listed below
Manuscript listings used to compile the official census enumerators returns: tithing of Godshill extraparochial
Date
1821
lists
b clark
james clark

and maybe elizabeth at Godshill
Manuscript listings used to compile the official census enumerators returns: tithing of Godshill
Date
1821
lists e clark

Problem with my William Clark and whether I can place him as the son of James and Sarah or just a relative ,there are two William Curls in the area , both are married to an elizabeth and I dont know which one is the William curl married to Elizabeth Clark. ( I expect the two Williams could be father and son by their ages.
but i also have
hyde
15th December 1877 William HICKS 54 Bachelor Labourer Gorley & Jane VINEY 60 Widow Gorley by Banns fathers George HICKS Labourer & James CLARK Labourer in the presence of Humphrey VINEY & Eliza VINEY

1841 census
ellingham ringwood next door to jeremiah and rachel hayter
william curl 40 lab  yes
elizabeth curl 35 yes
with
benjamin clark 25 lab yes
jane viney 20
charles viney 3
umphrey viney 1

the above benjamin is the son of james and sarah clark, as jane is their daughter and so i expect is elizabeth curl
what do you think , am i on the right track?

This is what I have on this - Jane Viney (nee Clark) was James & Sarah's daughter, she first married William Viney in 1836, I have William dying in 1874, so she would be a widow in 1877, she died in 1886. Humphrey Viney was one of her sons and Eliza (nee Witt) was his wife. Didn't have her 2nd marriage!  :)

1821
lists
b clark
james clark

James & Elizabeth had a son called Benjamin b.1816 so this fits  :)

I have Jeremiah & Rachel Hayter on my tree but not sure how they connect to the Clark's, Jeremiah's mother was Christabelle Blachford. Maybe they are not related at all, I think I am related one way or another to most of Fordingbridge!  :o We know Elizabeth, Benjamin & Jane were brother and sisters, and charles & Humphrey Viney were Jane's children -so another one that fits!  :) FYI Jane's other son, William is my Great Grandad  :) his son, Ernest, had a daughter called Sarah, who had a daughter called Lorraine = Me  :o lol

I think you are on the right road, I will do a bit of research this afternoon on the Clark's as info is minimal and you seem to have alot more than I do. I will let you know how I get on.

You've got me started again!! spent 20 years on this project to date lol
